Biometric/Machine Learning Studies for Three Performers

2024

Premiered 12.22.2024

Bangkok Art and Culture Center

Bangkok, Thailand

Designed as a series of vignettes, this composition explores interdependencies manifested through personal practice, group interaction and mechanical reflection. As such, each performer has been given a set of identical prompts to guide them through individual sections. For each performance, the sets are shuffled, yielding new combinations of collective actions. Additionally, during performance, their actions will be sampled, analyzed and deconstructed via machine learning software, with resultant sounds and responses determined by the brainwaves of the performers. Will this lead to any new inferences in awareness, existence and interaction? Who knows. Will we have fun along the way? Most definitely.

Performed by Tacet(i) Ensemble:

Siravith Kongbandalsuk (trombone)

Noppakorn Auesirinuroch (guitar) &

Pipe Kantapong (percussion)

Technical Notes

This composition uses similar code as the second iteration of Biometric Studies for Solo Performer, albeit in triplicate. In performance, datasets are created via live-sampling, adding an additional layer of stimuli for the performers to respond to. Individual actions are determined via open-ended prompts on index cards that will guide the dynamics of interaction between ensemble, as well as via EEG-guided machine-learning reconstructed audio data taken from the performance itself.
