Pandemic Era Constructions

2020-2022

As was the case with most, the pandemic was a time of reflection and transformation. In my case, it allowed me to wrap up older projects, revisit past designs, explore new formats and above all, keep busy to keep from going nuts as the supply chain rippled itself into oblivion. At some point or another my numbering system from past works and projects completely evaporated and you would think that given the amount of free time available that documentation would be a little more extensive, but apparently not. Either way, here’s a recap of what I remember or can cull from various accounts and file folders from that time with a general cut off of December 2022 when the Moog-Rothenberg project began in earnest:

First up, a first-edition XimeTron, which was/is a semi-modular collection of simple DIY modules that I was working on as curriculum for the Moonshot Studios at the Kennedy Center around the time that the shutdown began. The project was obviously scrapped by the government but I decided to proceed and make the files open source for anyone interested in a quick build project with minimal parts counts that’s more or less infinitely expandable.

Another vibrato similar to the 2015 variety – in fact, this actually was one of the 2015 models that ended up back in the workshop before getting a couple tweaks and sent back out into the world again.

A two-in one dealy similar to the Ram’s Head BMP + Pejibaye combos I was making back circa 2016 – however for this guy it combines a Pejibaye with a clone of a Boss FZ-2 for the especially doom-inspired. This one’s in western Washington State.

A tiny format jumbler for a friend to carry signal from older machine-screw based instruments to modern banana-based ones. Currently in Sacramento, Ca.

A much larger version of the same concept. This one’s part of my studio.

A XimeTron power supply and distortion module. This one also went to Sacramento to help translate (and power) old and new stuff.

Speaking of, this was the entire Sacramento care package – a new Rollz ala Number 12, am Ol’ Mr. Grassi, the power supply and the format jumbler.

Similarly, here’s my format jumbler in action alongside a Fourses and a Trzypsy, both in VF Industrial livery.

This one’s a custom envelope filter for a fellow musician at the day gig, assembled sometime in the spring of 2021.

A DosWave in something other than pink that came by way of enclosure shortages, circa 2021. I think this one’s in Costa Rica.

A Boss FZ-2 clone for me. Very much a permanent addition to my pedalboard.

A 23 in purple with some extra narwhal goodness. Alex has this one in CR.

This one’s obviously a 24 but outside of that I’m actually not sure where this one eventually ended up. Sorry about that.

An ‘Ol Mr. Grassi from 2021 that I’m pretty sure is either in Tennessee, Georgia or NYC.

A multi-effect industrial boat made out of a podium sign from my old job featuring a boost, 2 phasers, a vibrato and a reverb. Liz and Tim have this one in Baltimore.

A Pejibaye fed into a Gold Standard from 2022 for Alee in Oakland.

Pretty sure this is an Acapulco Gold clone that went south to CR in 2022.
